A Better Place to Live

As UTA has grown, we have dug deeper to address the root causes of housing problems. Housing finance, low income housing development and the preservation of affordable housing on a permanent basis were not part of UTA’s original agenda 4 decades ago. However, UTA’s community organization campaigns over the years have led to the development of several separate and unique organizations that have galvanized the energies of more people and marshaled more resources and funds to address these complex issues. These projects bring together people affected by the same types of problems to work collectively for solutions.

The Albany Area Housing Opportunities (AAHO)

The Albany Area Housing Opportunities was incorporated in 1981 to respond to gentrification and displacement problems. AAHO has renovated 4 dilapidated buildings, constructed 6 new condominiums, and currently manages 11 rental units for families and individuals who were homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.
